I've enjoyed playing in tournaments in the US, Europe and online, even winning a few! I wanted to give that experience to others and started having game days in Chattanooga, eventually organizing our first tournament in 2022. Tournaments and play days are so much fun!
The number of friends I've made playing this game online, in person and in tournaments both locally and internationally are too many to count! This is one of the best gaming communities you find, no doubt!
With my interest in WWII history, I love how comprehensive Memoir is. If there was any combat between any two nations anywhere in the world, there is a good chance there is a scenario for it. And if not, one can be designed!
I look forward to promoting the game and introducing others to the fun, strategy and history that comprises Memoir '44!

In fact, I remember preordering the game in 2001 in order to get the bonus Overlord scenarios that were only available with preorders. I have competed in multiple Memoir '44 tournaments at the World Boardgaming Championships (winning twice), as well as the Dutch Open and US Opens. I also organized the DC Victory Open in 2024 and 2025 to honor the memory of my grandfather, who was in the 95th Infantry Division during WWII.
I enjoy a wide variety of other board games including many of the other Commands and Colors games, but Memoir continues to challenge me. Memoir '44 is my favorite version of the system because of its relatively simple rules and the free-flowing nature of each game. I also appreciate how each battle can feel very different depending on what is dictated by the cards and die rolls. I'm very appreciative of the M'44 community and the number of friends I've made and experiences I've had playing this amazing game.

Three years ago, a few friends and I kicked off Monday Night Memoir, our weekly gaming club here in the Chicagoland area. We gather every Monday evening to push tanks, roll dice, and laugh. While Memoir '44 is the star of most Monday nights, we mix things up once a month with another title from the Commands & Colors family to keep things fresh.
Our group also runs a Memoir '44 regional tournament in Chicago called - The Finest Hour. All skill levels are welcome!
Two years ago, I started designing massive 8-16 player Memoir '44 scenarios specifically for conventions. These oversized battles are a sight to behold - sprawling maps filled with painted miniatures, spark excitement, and draw in curious newcomers who often end up joining our community.
If you're in the Chicago area or ever at a con where you spot one of my big Memoir '44 games, grab a seat - Id' love to deal you in!

Memoir '44 community and am honored to represent the USM44C team from Houston, TX. My passion for the game is rooted in the unique tactical depth of the Commands and Colors system, which perfectly balances historical flavor with fast-paced, unpredictable gameplay. For me, the magic of the game lies in its volatility, where a single card or bad die roll can instantly swing the momentum of a battle.
I have actively competed in high level play nationally and internationally, including the US Open, DC Victory Open, Finest Hour Open and Dutch Open.
Back home in TX, I help foster the local scene as part of a growing group of players in the Houston Metro area. We gather quarterly for fun one-day tournaments to keep our skills sharp and the community connected.
As we embark on this new chapter with USM44C, I am eager to help grow the platform and welcome new players to the ranks. Whether you find me across a physical board or online as DashRipRock on Board Game Arena, don't hesitate to say hello. I'm always ready for the next deployment!

I attended my first Memoir '44 tournament in Chattanooga, TN in 2022, organized by Jon Manley. I arrived knowing absolutely no one. What I found was an exceptionally welcoming community of people united by a shared enthusiasm for history, strategy and good competition. That first experience led to lasting friendships and travel to places I likely never would have visited otherwise.
Since then, I've participated in Memoir '44 events across the US including TN, Washington DC, Chicago and the US Marine Corps Museum in Triangle, VA, as well as in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The international tournaments were even more welcoming than I imagined possible. While my wife has no interest in the game itself (I doubt I'm alone in this), we have both thoroughly enjoyed traveling to these events and experiencing the people and the places they've taken us.
Every event I've attended or helped organize has been a fantastic experience, consistently reinforced by the quality of the people involved and the camaraderie that naturally develops around shared interests. My advice is simple: if you truly enjoy Memoir '44, stepping outside your comfort zone and attending an event will be well worth it.
If you're in the DC area, whether you live here or are just visiting, feel free to reach out at thehowleyhouse@gmail.com and we'll try to a match in. And yes, I mean that sincerely. I did exactly that while traveling for business in Houston, reaching out to a player I had met online through BGA and the old Days of Wonder site. That player (Jeff Hunt, now the USM44C TX Regional Coordinator) welcomed me warmly, remains a good friend, and has traveled to numerous tournaments himself (and won).
I hope to see you at an upcoming event!

I got into gaming when I asked for the original Axis and Allies for Christmas. My friend and I played the heck out of that.

Back in 2011, while checking a message board for another game, I came upon a listing where the person was offering up a Memoir '44 base game and one expansion for trade for pieces from the other game. I happened to have almost all of what he was looking for, close to 100 pieces, so I offered him a trade. All the M44 stuff for all the pieces you need. He accepted. Shortly after I received the game, I went on a buying binge to get what was I was missing.
I attempt to host two D-Day Landings sessions each year, around Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I can only do half at a time because that's all the friends, room, pieces and Breakthrough decks I have.
I've attended the Chattanooga Open in 2022 and finished 3rd and have attended several other tournaments over the years.
As a 50th birthday gift to myself, I attended my first Dutch Open in 2024 and had a blast. On my day off, I had to track down poster tubes to carry everything I got back home. That was an adventure!
2025 was a very busy year as I attended 5 tournaments across the US and Europe. I hope to up that to 6 this year by attending the 10th anniversary of the Belgium Open.
I have modified a "Scenario Roll Call" that I found to include whatever expansions that were missing, along with as many tournament scenarios I could find. I have scenarios from the French, Dutch, Belgium, Melle, US, UK and WBC tournaments, along with about 60 scenarios from the Vae Victis Magazine.
This is one of my top three C&C games. The other two being Red Alert:Space Fleet Warfare, of which I am the admin for the Facebook group, and Napoleonics.
I own all 12 C&C games, so it's very common for me to crisscross the rules between them.
I yearn for the challenge to expand this amazing game to other gamers. It is the easiest of the 12 C&C games, but it still challenges me.
